Website Hosting F.A.Q's

Q.  Why are all your packages labelled -Pro.

A.  They all have the same Professional cPanel features, it's only the individual capacities that varies.

Q.  If I upgrade what will happen to any residual value in my old package.

A.  Any residual value will be calculated to the nearest month and credited towards your new package.

Q.  I do not have a PayPal account.

A.  I would advise you to sign up, costs nothing, otherwise postal services will slow the transaction down considerably, but it's your choice.

Q.  Do the advertised prices include VAT

A.  NO - We are not VAT registered so vat is not chargeable, the price you see is the price you pay.

Q.  What are Nameservers.

A.  Nameservers are the signpost and first step to directing traffic to your Domain,  In our case we have our own exclusive Nameservers.

Q.  Why do you recommend 123-reg.co.uk

A.  They are very keen on Domain pricing, pay by PayPal or Card, you have your own account panel for configuration, renewals notification for Domains starts at 60 days,  excellent customer care and support, however Domain hosting packages consist of stripped out features not like our own full blown cPanel Pro packages, and the packages they offer are not customisable at a later date.

Q.  What else do I need to do once I have changed my Nameservers on my Domain account panel.

A.  Nothing,  all your Domain facilities are directed to our server, all the functions you will need will be now found in cPanel,  configuring emails etc on your Domain account panel (i.e. 123-reg.co.uk ) will not work as you have presumably now directed all functions to your account on our server.

Q.  What happens if I install a programme from Fantastico and have problems.

A.  Make sure that what you are looking at has a support forum and possible online help,  Fantastico is so extensive we could not possibly have any knowledge about all the software listed or it's development.  General rule, if you don't quite understand it - leave well alone.

Q.  I feel slightly intimidated by all the facilities in cPanel.

A.  No problem,  as you use cPanel you will soon find your way around,  you don't have to tweak every single button in sight to successfully configure the back end of your website.  Video tutorials and support are available in cPanel.  If in doubt, Google Wiki with the term or facility you are looking at for further explanation.

Q.  How can I judge how much space I will need.

A.  This site would run on the Advanced-Pro Package quite easily at  >>  £ 55.00 p.a. ( It's now growing very fast )

Q.  My disk space is fine but I am getting a lot of traffic can I obtain more bandwidth.

A.  Yes - We can arrange to tweak you bandwidth to suit for a small fee without changing your package.

Q.  Can I use " catchall " on my emails so I do not miss any mail.

A.  Yes you can, I would however strongly advise you not to use this feature, you will be assisting spammers bouncing mail off the server,  you will find you are downloading all sorts of rubbish and viral problems. If the spammers find out your Domain will not serve their purposes they will move on, saving you bandwidth and bother.  Stick to your nominated addresses and use Spam Assassin, box trapper and eMail validation.

Q.  What happens if I reach my allocated account limits on the server.  i.e. Bandwidth and Disk space

A.  Spammers can use all your Disk and Bandwidth allocation if you let them,  yes you would be paying for them to distribute there rubbish.  In the event of your limits being reached your account automatically goes into suspension until the matter is sorted.  This is as much a safety measure as anything else, and prevents any further use until the matter of the overload is identified and resolved.

Q.  When I configure my email accounts how much disk space should I allocate for each address.

A.  I would advise keeping it small - about 10mb, if spammers break through or whatever you are going to have heck of a job shifting that lot. Do not set your eMail client to leave copies on the server as well.

Q.  Why should I have an independent eMail account when I have several configured on my Domain.

A.  If your Domain or the servers fail or whatever, there will be no means of communication, we recommend taking a Gmail address when you open your Google account, this will cover you for those disasters that may never happen.

Q.  Does cPanel have email Auto responders.

A.  Yes, you can configure your own personal message for this service.  You will also be able to personalise error pages as well.

Q.  Why do you need a sitemap.

A.  A sitemap is essential to assist Googlebot and other bots to navigate your site and index it, helping your page rankings on the search. engines.

Q.  When I publish my site or amend it by adding new pages etc, do I need to close it down while uploading new material.

A.  No, just hit the publish button,  the server will accept your new data while the site is live,  to see your new published content hit the refresh button or Control F5 to purge the system.

Q.  There are one or two matters I need clarification on.

A.  Please ask, don't leave it until it's too late.
